an oldie

To Cupid

The blackest muds were turned severely red
The darkest days and nights fought by the dead
The misty silhouettes of fire and smoke
Erased the soft light to which we once woke

The number of times love letters were sent
From the heavy-hearted, on cracked cement
The number of days they waited in vain
Drifting off as wounds turn into thick stains

A man will grow up once he’s gone to war
Good women know that that is what they fight for
Some stay because it's too hard to come home
Men like this deserve to live their life alone

And so sunsets burn and the dawn is crisp
A fight is no fight if not fought with the fist
But how many cowards must I collide with
Before love is more than a puddle of spit?

If love does live and sees past these egos
Then why do you sit there sinking in woes?
Those who dive head first seem ill-rewarded
And The truth 'tween lovers is always contorted

Seeking out the one who meets needs the best
Is sought by seekers who can’t pass the test
The ones deprived of true love’s silky caress
Echoing in a desert full of emptiness

Lovers who’ve accepted execution
And cowardly names wrapped up in conclusions
Just to stay true to a secret two share
This is for the ones who 're vulnerable and bare

Accepting the arrows you shoot with ease
While you smile at those who 're best at the tease
Rage swooning over a branded empty heart
All because cowards can’t finish what they start

And so gaze at the bombs shooting ‘cross the skies
If smoke and dead soldiers answer your 'why's'
And now there’s no polite or civil way to explain
You're only a track and love is a train
